| View in browser Call for Experts Accelerating the Path to U.S. Fusion Power: An Evaluation of the DOE’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program We are seeking experts for a new consensus study that will evaluate the Milestone-Based Fusion Development (MBDF) program. To be considered, please submit your application by October 30, 2026. Submit now The Department of Energy’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development (MBFD) Program is helping advance the development of a fusion pilot plant to support a competitive U.S. fusion industry.   The National Academies are seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new consensus study to evaluate the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Milestone-Based Fusion Development (MBFD) Program. This study will assess the status and effectiveness of the MBFD Program, with a focus on the benefits and drawbacks of its milestone-based approach. It will also evaluate the program's progress, impacts, and lessons learned, drawing on perspectives from DOE, awardees, investors, and other public- and private-sector participants.   Using these suggestions, the National Academies will be looking to build a study committee of approximately 10 volunteer experts, in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers.   Based on the Statement of Task, we are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas: Fusion science and technology Nuclear project management Economics Funding models Program evaluation National and international energy policy   We invite you to submit your suggestions by October 30, 2026.
