The Department of Energy’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development (MBFD) Program is helping advance the development of a fusion pilot plant to support a competitive U.S. fusion industry.
The National Academies are seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new consensus study to evaluate the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Milestone-Based Fusion Development (MBFD) Program. This study will assess the status and effectiveness of the MBFD Program, with a focus on the benefits and drawbacks of its milestone-based approach. It will also evaluate the program's progress, impacts, and lessons learned, drawing on perspectives from DOE, awardees, investors, and other public- and private-sector participants.
Using these suggestions, the National Academies will be looking to build a study committee of approximately 10 volunteer experts, in addition to collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers.
