| View in browser Work with Us Call for Experts: Examining Literacy Across the Life Course The National Academies are seeking experts to participate in a new study exploring ways to improve literacy across the life span.   The deadline for nominations is October 27, 2026. Submit now The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are seeking suggestions for experts to participate in a new study on literacy across the life course. This study will examine the current state of literacy across the life span with attention to what is known about the different educational contexts in which individuals develop literacy and the influence of digital tools on literacy. The study will also examine promising programs to improve literacy and detail the implications of literacy for global competitiveness and national security.   Based on the Statement of Task, staff are looking for expertise particularly in the following areas: Literacy Instruction Cognitive Neuroscience Developmental Psychology Education Psychology Sociology Learning Theory Workforce Development Language and Linguistics Educational Assessment Education Technology Learning Disabilities In addition to building the study committee, National Academies’ staff will also be collecting information for potential speakers, participants, and peer reviewers.
